Fat Thursday in Poland

As you all may know Lent is coming. On the last Thursday before it starts we celeberate a day called Fat Thursday (similar to Pancake Tuesday in Britain). On that day we forget about diet and healthy food, because it is the last breathe of carnival therefore we should spoil ourselves. How shall we do it?

Among the most popular sweets served on that day you may find two most popular and delicious. First of all it must be doughnut!

It is usually filled with rose marmalade and shot through with caster sugar

or covered with icing and orange zest

Of course other versions of popular doughnuts are also available with diffrent filling and top:

The second most common way of getting on weight is to eat faworki (French dough fingers served with lots of caster sugar). Faworki are usually fried at home and each housewife has its own secret recipe (faworki must be very crunchy).

In 2014 we celebrate Fat Thursday on 27th February. Are you fancy of visiting Poland during this time?
